Yoga & Ayurveda

I have been a lifelong student of yoga, first beginning as a child practicing with my mother, and I have been teaching since 2002. My influences are diverse; my teaching is my own and is ever evolving. My early studies were in Iyengar Yoga, which, paired with my training as a classical ballet dancer, brought a deep and nuanced somatic awareness to my practice. My time spent with a consistent Ashtanga practice gave me intense physicality and the consistency of routine. Over the years I have studied in a myriad of traditions and with teachers, like myself, whose influences are diverse and their teaching their own. I have deep respect for the work of the community that created the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. My residency at Kripalu and the teacher training I received there remain foundational to my teaching and practice of both Yoga & Ayurveda.

I am currently an Ayurvedic Health Counselor student of Myra Lewin’s at Hale Pule and am studying everything I can find on the magic of Katonah Yoga.

Outside the Studio

Most days you can find me at Flying Plow Farm, where we raise certified organic veggies, eggs, & pastured meats. In a previous life, I was a full-time professional dancer, and I still perform with Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. I am actively involved in (almost exclusively Democratic) politics, believing that government can and should be a place for all of us to come together to create a more equitable and peaceful society while upholding individual rights and freedoms. I also serve on a variety of boards of committees. Nearest and dearest to my heart is the work of the Common Grain Alliance and Newark Natural Foods.

Personal

I live with my husband in a home surrounded by forest that we are privileged to inhabit. Spending time in the kitchen (and growing some of our own food) is one of my true loves. I believe connecting with our food is an act of great beauty and pleasure as well as being key to our personal wellness and the wellness of our ecosystem. If you listen really hard, I can occasionally be heard playing old-time banjo and singing. More frequently, I can be seen listening to live music and enjoying time with friends.
