All Levels Hatha Yoga
Mondays, 5:15-6:45 @ Yoga Loft
Saturdays, 9:30-10:30am @ Co-op
With a focus on a well rounded asana (the postures) practice for the full body, this multi-level class is for both newer and continuing students. This class accommodates students with a range of yoga experience and physical abilities through:
the development of increasingly specific somatic awareness,
the use of modifications to increase or decrease difficulty, and
the use of props.
Classes will also include pranayama (breath work) and meditation. Please bring a yoga mat.
Gentle Yoga
Wednesdays, 5:45-6:45pm @ Co-op
This is a well balanced class of movement & postures (asana), meditation, and breath work (pranayama). The class primarily focuses on slow, gentle practices that help us wind down at the end of the day,
Please bring a yoga mat.
Restorative Yoga
Monthly @ Co-op
In Restorative Yoga we are held in the poses by building scaffolding with props such as bolsters and stacks of blankets in order to let go of holding ourselves in the pose and be held. This is a profound practice from moving from a state of doing to a state of being. Students commonly report feeling deeply relaxed, deeply peaceful, and with a sense of ease and spaciousness in their body after practice.
Class size limited to 10; please register prior to arriving for class by paying online.
Please bring a yoga mat. All other props provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Bringing an eye pillow is a nice addition.
Yoga Nidra
Scheduled with our without Restorative every month or so @ Co-op and @ Yoga Loft
In yoga nidra, we move to a state between waking and sleeping where the body & mind are fully relaxed, allowing our consciousness to reside in a place of pure awareness where profound healing and rest can occur. Yoga nidra, as practiced in this group setting, is realized through a guided meditation while in savasana (alternative ways of laying on the floor or sitting available). We’ll do some very gentle movement and breathwork to get settled. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat.
I’m a beginner, where should I start?
The 6 week series, Yoga Fundamentals is the ideal starting place if you are brand new to yoga. Gentle Yoga & All Levels Hatha are also beginner friendly for many people and, as time allows, I’m happy to meet with new practitioners before or after class. I’d love to talk with you to find the right class if you are unsure where to begin. You can get the conversation started by contacting me here.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is primarily concerned with spiritual liberation. It has a vast history spanning thousands of years with many schools and their respective philosophies and practices. The practices we typically see in group classes are mostly focused on asana (the poses) as well as some pranayama (breath) and meditation; these types of classes and the majority of the asana used in them have only been around for 100 years or so. While the goal of all yoga practices is to move us towards, and eventually achieve, spiritual liberation, the practices of asana, pranayama, and meditation commonly have other profound effects along the way, including:
stress reduction
improved sleep
lessened reactivity
physical health
ease & comfort in the body
